We Were Sunstate Hobie

Formerly Sunstate Hobie we changed our name to Sunstate WaterSports to reflect the broader range of products we now offer you. We are still your Queensland Hobie Dealer located in the Brisbane suburb of Hemmant and carry a wide range of water sports products and accessories. You can shop in store or online.

Sunstate Hobie was first established as Sunshine Coast Hobie Cat in 1991, this family owned and operated business has always specialised in Hobie products. More recently, kayaking, kayak fishing kayak sailing and stand up paddling have become very popular and the Hobie Cat Company have worked hard to become market leaders in these fields, providing us with tremendous products that are constantly evolving to keep Hobie at the top of the ladder.

20 Plus Years

In its twentieth year, Sunstate WaterSports expanded expanded its operation into the heart of Brisbane. Located in the Rivergate Marina under the Gateway Bridge, it is central to Brisbane and easy to find. Open Monday to Friday 9am to 3pm and Saturday 9am to 1pm for those who can’t get away on weekdays.

The original owners Mal and Trish have since retired passing the business on to a couple of very experienced Hobie people Gordon and Lindi Mcgillray. Gordon has been working for Hobie Australasia for the past 12 years and previous to that they owned their own Hobie business for 9 years in South Africa.

New Location

In order to accommodate our extensive range of Brisbane Kayaks Sunstate Water Sports, formerly Sunstate Hobie, have relocated just down the road to our new Brisbane Kayak Showroom at:

Unit 2/3 Gosport St, Hemmant 4174.

Here you will find everything from the full range of Hobie and FishYak Kayaks to Kayak Fishing Accessories, Hobie Cats and Spare Parts plus Hobie Sup’s and the Eclipse Range of Stand Up Paddle Boards.

Gordon 

Gordon has lived and breathed sailing since the age of 5 years old! He’s competed in international sailing events, owned Hobie Cat South Africa for 10 years, 12 years at Hobie Asia Pacific before taking over Sunstate Watersports in 2018.

Jacob

Jacob is up for any outdoor adventure. Spending any spare moment on the water around moreton bay from a Hobie Outback. Kayaks have always been his go to watercraft. He’s also been a TT pro team member for 5 years and will chase any fish from fresh or salt!

Morgan

Morgan is a keen kayak angler and has owned more kayaks then you could poke a stick at! The Northside of Brisbane is his neck of the woods and he’s spent many hours on the water and knows it like the back of his hand. He’s worked in the outdoor industry and kayaks at Freak Sports before finding his role at Sunstate.
